Durarara!! PVC figure ALTAiR Heiwajima Shizuo

This is a review about a PVC figure of the anime character 'Shizuo' from the anime 'Durarara!!'. In the series Shizuo Heiwajima is the man renowned as the strongest man in Ikebukuro. He is introduced as a violent, no-nonsense tough guy, on equal footing with dangerous characters such as Izaya. However, it is implied that most of the time, he is quiet and nondescript, simply following Tom Tanaka around as his bodyguard. Here he's shown wearing his characteristic bartender suit and blue sunglasses. He also holds a traffic sign in his hands, which is one of the things Shizuo uses as a weapon throughout the series.

It think it's nice to see a figure of Shizuo where he is holding a characteristic traffic sign. Shizuo's face is very well executed. Especially his hair is a real eye-catcher. It seems like they really sculpted every single hair of Shizuo's messy haircut. Even though his face isn't completely accurate to the anime, I can't put my finger on what it exactly lacks. His simple outfit is executed very detailed and his blue sunglasses top it off. The possibility to add his cigarette is a nice feature and the presence of his traffic sign is fun. I also think it's fun that you can mix and match the figure to your image of Shizuo: With(out) traffic sign, with(out) sunglasses and with(out) cigarette. I think that this figure really tried to resemble the anime very well and I think they have succeeded.

I don't even know what to say about the quality of this figure since it's just marvelous. Alter is a big name in the figure industry and again they have delivered an outstanding figure. The sculpting and paintwork of this figure is from a very high level. The traffic sign of Shizuo even has tiny little screws sculpted in it. The paintwork on the traffic sign makes it look like real metal. Shizuo's simple outfit is executed very accurate and tilted to another level by the sculpting of the folds. Shizuo's pose might look a little static at first but I think it suits him since it adds up to his mysterious glare. The only thing that I dislike is the ground plate. I think they better made it white/transparent or sculpted a part of the street on it. This would make the figure stand out more.

The pieces of this figure fitted very easily and I had no trouble at all getting all the elements in place.

The figure was in one piece but with some extra pieces: an extra head, an extra arm, the traffic sign and two cigarettes. Replacing the arms and heads went very smooth and also the tiny cigarette stayed in place.
